Dear Struggling College Christian,

Life can be tough, especially in college. You’re at the age where everyone expects you to have it all figured out. You’re somewhere in between, possessing just enough freedom to do what you want while still being held responsible for your actions and responsibility for your future. If you’re like me, you may have a few ideas of what you plan to do, but your “true calling” has not come. You’re always stressed out. I can say this, you’re going to get hurt, you’re going to want to give up. Maybe even the thought that you are not good enough or do not have what it takes may try to consume you.

At this point in the semester, you may have cried out to God and you feel like He never heard you and has turned His back on you. Remember, He never said that this life would be easy. We would face trials and tribulations of many kinds. I want you to know everything you are facing is preparing you for a blessing. It is coming, be patient. The weather of your life is unpredictable. There will be rain that seems to be never ending. The hailstorm is going to hit you out of nowhere and the twisters are going to send you spinning out of the word and more into confusion, tiredness, and self-doubt, but God will not allow you to drown. He says in Isaiah 43:2 “When you walk through deep waters, I will be with you.”

You’ll find out that sooner or later, that the things you went through are what you needed to fulfill your purpose. You’ve read Jerimiah 29:11, John 3:16, Romans 8:28, but the real verse I have found myself never paying attention to is Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not own your understandings; in all your ways acknowledge Him, He shall direct your paths.” The one simple word: Trust.

So, while we are stressing about what career we are called to do, where you are going to land after you graduate, if you are going to marry the person you’ve been with for years, or if what you’re passionate about is what you’ll major in. He already has a plan, no matter how difficult it is preserve through it with everything you have, there is nothing more than the enemy wants is to see us fail and to see our lives be filled with terminal. Do not give into depression and anxiety. Fill yourself with non-secular music, fill it with what is good for the soul. He loves at our best and our worst unconditionally. Life is tough, but you’re tougher simply because you are his Child. God does got you.

Trust and pray and everything will be much better. Say this everyday: I will not waste an opportunity to share his name. I will not defer my destiny. I am more than a conqueror because of Him who lives in me. I am unashamed to represent a kingdom that is unshakable. Though my enemy tries to surround me, my God surrounds me.

Serve Always,

Destiny Massengill
